Annual Education Symposium
Foundation To Host Renowned Speaker
Rick Lavoie on Thursday, October 14th
Education Symposium
The Foundation is pleased to announce the much-anticipated return of one of the country’s leading special education consultants, renowned speaker and best selling author, Richard D. Lavoie, M.A., M.Ed. Rick wowed the 2008 Symposium audience, and his sellout lectures and workshops have made him one of the most sought-after speakers in the field. Rick holds three degrees in Special Education and has worked in the field since 1972. He is a nationally-known expert on learning disabilities and serves as a consultant to many organizations.
This year’s presentation titled, “The Motivation Breakthrough: 6 Secrets to Turning On the Tuned-Out Child” is based on his most recent book. The focus of the presentation will help to revolutionize the way parents, teachers, and professionals can motivate children and students. Motivation is a key factor in learning, and Rick will emphasize the importance of understanding what motivates individuals, so that any child can be inspired to learn and achieve success.
Rick’s innovative approach will provide effective strategies and proven tools to use at home and in the classroom. While applicable for those with special needs, his lessons and inspiration are helpful to anyone who deals with children and students. The presentation will be beneficial to parents, caregivers, education students, teachers, administrators, professionals and anyone with an interest in Special Education.
Due to the tremendous interest in Rick’s 2008 presentation, the Foundation is asking individuals to pre-register this year. Those who register will be guaranteed preferred seating. Please contact Laura C. Dickason, Foundation Director at lcdickason@lkfse.net to register. As the Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) organization, donations are welcome to help defer the cost of the event which is free and open to the public. This year’s event is scheduled for Thursday, October 14th and will be held at PVCC’s (Piedmont Virginia Community College) V. Earl Dickinson Building located at 501 College Drive in Charlottesville, Virginia. Feel free to call with questions at 434-293-7981.
